Youth For Understanding USA (YFU) advances intercultural understanding, life-long learning, global competencies, mutual respect, and social responsibility through transformational educational exchanges for generations of youth, families, and communities, supported by dedicated volunteers and professional staff. YFU helps participants broaden their perspectives through immersive experiences that share a culture from the inside out, promoting the understanding that we are all citizens of one world. YFU cultural exchange programs provide the ultimate reality check to a worldview based on stereotypes.

Since 1951, more than 270,000 exchange students, their host families, and 12,000+ worldwide volunteers have benefited from YFU’s study abroad programs. The YFU global network remains united by the belief that full cultural immersion is the most effective means to gain the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly multicultural, interconnected and competitive global society.
