As a Congress-Bundestag scholar or alum, your college application will stand out from the rest. College admissions counselors often speak to the invaluable experience of a cultural immersion program. They recognize the independence and global awareness that come from a program such as CBYX. As a U.S. State Department funded program, CBYX offers its alumni even greater recognition than other comparable programs. Congress-Bundestag scholars are an elite group, from measurable points such as German language ability, to immeasurable factors like maturity and worldliness.

Alumni of the CBYX program enjoy a lifetime of benefits. Upon completion of the program, as a Congress-Bundestag alum you will be admitted into the U.S. Department of State’s Alumni Community. Through entry into this elite group, you will be invited to apply to internships available to State Alumni, opportunities to further your language study, fellowships abroad, independent grant opportunities and more.

As a CBYX Finalist, you will participate in various activities both prior to your departure to Germany and upon your return to the U.S. These activities are designed to prepare you with the cultural tools necessary to integrate into German society. Immediately prior to your departure from the U.S., you will attend an orientation in Washington, D.C. to learn about the merits of youth ambassadorship and citizen diplomacy. You will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from your U.S. Congressional Representative's office, as well as U.S. Department of State officials. Upon arrival in Germany, you will receive an intensive orientation that will introduce German customs and essential language skills with participation from young German alumni of the CBYX program. You will attend a final orientation with fellow CBYX students in both Germany and the U.S. at the closing of the program.
